Take a look at Silverwing, a magnificent-looking Canadian animated series about bats. The trailer looks superb. The characters are easily the best anthropomorphic bats I've ever seen -- despite the details that humanize them, they still look and feel like bats.

I'm definitely going to draw heavily from this visual style when I try to draw Lord Nikulai.

Unfortunately, there's no indication whatsoever of when or if this show will arrive in the Untidy States. Alas, with only 13 episodes, it may not reach the Magic Number for syndication.

I'll just have to scare up the novels. According to the site, the third one in the series bumped Harry Potter off the Youth Fiction Bestsellers List in Canada.

And they're about bats!

Well, 13 is still The Standard for a season of weekly animation, unless the show has proven itself wildly popular.

Isn't that just the thing? Canadian kids shows seem to be quite good. As for the season length, a kids show should usually get 26 episodes in its first season, and if it becomes popular, add in 13-episode seasons. Hopefully it does come over, even on a hard-to-get channel.

It's...it's...

It will probably hit cable TV here, but it may be buried on free-to-air in an early afternoon timeslot. Bugger.

how's the bat comic going? 8)

Ummm... uhhh... ummmm...

I can't draw faces!

I have a bad enough time with reg'lar pointy-nosed mammal furry snouts -- the multiplicity of bat faces are drivin' me nutz!

Actually, I have a bit less trouble with the exotic, baroque, flat-faced leaf-nosed types than with the long-nosed fruitybatz who are the stars...

If it helps, Aussie bats generally don't have the big nose leaves. Some do but they're not as elaborate as the American and Eurobats. They have instead variations of pointy muzzles, some are blunter, some are flatter than a flying-fox's. Vampires don't have a leaf either.

Accuracy isn't terribly important. It's a comic! I can scan photos of various faces if you wish, but I think they're all googleable. Apart from those characters specifically mentioned everyone else is a "generic" bat.
