Pop Tarts have been around almost exactly my entire life: I was born 28 February 1964, they hit the shelves on 14 Spetember. The phrase has been part of my consciousness as long as I can remember.

Of course, this was the '60s, when Warhol was king... and the dominant artistic momvement was... "Pop Art".

Today, I finally realized that "Pop Tarts" was a pun.

This site confirms it.

Those of us interested in RPG Adventure Design, especially in the Cliffhanger Radio Theater era, may find these words of wisdom from the creator of Doc Savage useful and illuminating.

I particularly like the repeated advice: "Shovel more grief onto the hero."
