I've added the following to the top of that post, and reprinted it here because it shouldn't just get lost in everyone's already-read backlog:

I am, in fact, keenly aware of the miscarriage of justice visited upon the creator of the Ghost Rider by the courts. In short: they've bankrupted a sick old man by ordering him to pay damages to Marvel/Disney, one of the largest multinational combines in the world.

I thought long and hard about seeing the movie after hearing about this, but finally came to a compromise:

I donated several times more than the ticket price directly to Mr. Friedrich.

That's a whole hell of a lot more effective than a boycott, by my assessment.

Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the show?

The situation is not quite as black and white as "Disney evil, author good", no matter how much I hate Disney.

Short version:
#1: Regardless of whether or not he developed Ghost Rider independently, he presented it to Marvel as something he had developed under contract to them and that he assigned to them in perpetuity.
#2: He was selling copies of ANOTHER ARTIST'S work, without crediting or compensating the artist, at conventions.

Disney are mega-assholes, yes, but in this specific case from their perspective they're being sued by a guy who produced work *they own*, and who is currently screwing actual illustrators out of the money they deserve. And Friedrich's only counterclaim is that he "didn't understand" the contract that had him selling all rights to Ghost Rider to Marvel?

This is like Frank Miller suing DC because they've made a movie out of "his" Batman story.
