The DDoS attack on LiveJournal has been officially announced.

I've been able to access LJ at work, but not at home (the direct opposite of many of you out there), so I found myself getting further and further behind until today, when I got back from lunch with almost half an hour to spare on playing catchup.

A conversation about Google's new social network, Google+, has been twining in and around the complaining about LiveJournal's status. It's odd to me how so many people have decided that it's time to pack up and head for Google+ because LJ is so "unstable" and "erratic". To me, this has had all the symptoms of a DDoS attack, and I've seen any number of sites fall prey to those -- including Google itself.

It just strikes me as very convenient timing for the "Do No Evil" company.

I don't see myself getting much if any use out of G+. That doesn't mean I won't be ON it; I just doubt I'll make much USE of it.

More later.

Same here (about G+), at least until they sort out their 'real names' policies....

I've got my own post about this written but I haven't been able to post it for two days now. Hell, if this comment gets through, it'll be the first thing I've been able to write into LJ's database, period in 36 hours.
