  • Furries with tattoos -- in their fur.
  • Furries who blush -- through their fur.
  • Furries with six-pack abs so ripped, you can see them through their fur. (Thanx, [livejournal.com profile] normanrafferty)

More entries later, as I think of them.

Okay, I now feel much better about the lack of muscular definition in my characters. After all, it's covered by their fur!

This doesn't necessarily justify Yerzle's pear-shape, though....

Things I dont understand - Fur!

well..the first two i could agree with...the third one..well...depends how long that fur is! But i dont like overly ripped furries..I prefer the shaggy type where the muscles are a bit..hidden :) *pats my belly*

Otherwise i see it like this...a fur can do or look like what they want. If you start sayin "Oh they cant blush through fur" Id say prove it. Furs arent real so make em do what you want :)

What's disturbing to me is people who draw furs so detailed that you can see their six-pack abs and such--but then they appear to have no genitals, and the explanation is "the fur hides them."

Say what? O.o

Yeah, that would need to be some seriously wacky fur to have such varying length of that nature...

...not to mention that the latter would require said fur to be almost ridiculously long, for most common Furry species.

Whenever I mention Furries blushing visibly, it's always in note to someplace like the inside of the ear, where such an effect would actually be visible.

YES!

Thanks for this. I was starting to think I was the only one that occasionally tweaked people's noses about these. The blushing one is something I'll go after right away. With Termy I'd have his form ripple a bit in place of it (because METAL can't blush).

#3 doesn't require a lot of fur to hide definition. It'd have to be a pretty short fur length (like say a horse's hide) to see things. See, I've managed a bit of definition in the chest area as a side-effect of the swimming, but its nearly all obscured.... 'nuff said.

I suppose if one didn't have a tattoo through the fur one could have a cryogenic brand mark....

JA!

This is why my character's eartips blush a lot, it is some of the only exposed skin on her.

Furries might have electric clippers with depth guides on them, and someone who had ripped abs might well clip his fur short to show them off. :)

Well, that tattoos in the fur are temporary-- patterns dyed into the fur. That would be kind of cool, really; you could have a pattern and either renew it or change it when it started to fade.

When I describe a furred character with a tattoo, the tattoo'd area is furless. This tends to happen in real life, as I understand it; tattoos kill the hair. That's what gave me the idea. Of course, if it were a long-furred character, that would look really strange.

Blushing? On the inside of the ears. :)

As for muscles, no, I don't think so, except on a short-furred critter. Horses, for example; you can see their muscles pretty well, if they're in their summer coats. But yes, a bodybuilder might sculpt his own fur to emphasize his build. Or to exaggerate it. Which is a scary thought. Imagine a musclebound bodybuilder who sculpts his three-inch fur to look even MORE musclebound. Urgh.

Well... my primary furry avatar is a pony, so there's a good deal of muscle definition, but equine; so he's a little pot-bellied looking. I haven't tried drawing the pony, specifically, but that's kind of the look I go for while drawing horse types.

As for blushing, my characters do blush - but in my defense it's inside the ears, which tend to fold back along with other body language while embarassed.

How about a dark black or dark red creature blushing, that one is one of favorites };->

On the other hand, I don't really expect everyone to be great Role Players. I mean, the point is to just enjoy yourself, yes? Sometimes I imagine it's just easier to use human expressions as a sort of short hand. I know I do know and again, even when I know better.

*shrugs* You got me on all of them, basically. I don't think I've done one with tatoos in a LONG time, but blushing I am very guilty of (all of my gals are rosy cheeked), and I have a variant on the last one -- creases/folds in flesh and navels. Meh, I'm a goob like that. My stylizations will continue to laugh at the laws of reality.

Heh. I play a bird with alot of bare patches, so blushing comes real easy to me. (Try and tattoo my thin skin at your own peril).

Even my gryphs can blush. They just do it through the cere (patch of skin on the beak where the nostrils/nares emerge).

And forget six pack abs. Give me strong flight muscles any day. :>

Seriously.

Who'd want a six-pack when you could have a whole KEG?

Well, being a 'taur, I've got plenty of uncovered skin that's very usable for tattoos and blushing, so neener neener ha ha ha. :)

I'd get me a really bitchin' Harley Davidson tattoo or like, a flaming skull. If I could get over my fear of needles, that is.

And I will add this - in my rarely used all equine morph I have posed 'blushes under his horse coat' on occasion. So it's not something the other characters see as such, but a narrative device...
