White House Caves on Miranda Rights
We don't need to read terrorist suspects their Miranda rights! This is a Public Safety Matter, based on realistic case scenarios from the best U.S. policy thinktanks!
Don't worry! Nobody could ever get falsely accused of terrorism!
... why would you even think that such a thing could apply to you, hmmmm? Maybe we should keep an eye on you ....
Like I said a few days ago, I'll celebrate my country's independence when it happens.
As I was typing this, the radio just blabbed an ad for a local TV news series inciting panic because the restrictions governing where sex offenders can live can't be applied to homeless people, because they don't have an address. ONOES! Homeless people are out to rape your children!
I am so fucking tired of fearmongering.

Date: 2010-05-11 04:03 pm (UTC)I read an article a while back about this homeless camp in Florida which was comprised entirely of sex offenders. Since the convictions screw up the offenders' abilities to get places to live, these guys lived in homeless groups which then got busted and forced to move on for being bums or for being sex offenders, and at the time of the article, they were about to lose this last little place under a bridge somewhere in Florida, I think it was.
Shit, if you're going to give someone a death sentence for being a sex offender, just kill them.

Date: 2010-05-11 11:14 pm (UTC)The density of schooling systems is so high in SF that there is -no legal place to live- for a sex offender.. Effectively, they are -required by law- to be homeless.
Which of course makes it easy to sew fear about homeless sex offenders and "Oh gawd, Mah chillins are gonna get raped!"
