White House Caves on Miranda Rights

We don't need to read terrorist suspects their Miranda rights! This is a Public Safety Matter, based on realistic case scenarios from the best U.S. policy thinktanks!

Don't worry! Nobody could ever get falsely accused of terrorism!

... why would you even think that such a thing could apply to you, hmmmm? Maybe we should keep an eye on you ....

Like I said a few days ago, I'll celebrate my country's independence when it happens.

As I was typing this, the radio just blabbed an ad for a local TV news series inciting panic because the restrictions governing where sex offenders can live can't be applied to homeless people, because they don't have an address. ONOES! Homeless people are out to rape your children!

I am so fucking tired of fearmongering.

restrictions governing where sex offenders can live can't be applied to homeless people

I read an article a while back about this homeless camp in Florida which was comprised entirely of sex offenders. Since the convictions screw up the offenders' abilities to get places to live, these guys lived in homeless groups which then got busted and forced to move on for being bums or for being sex offenders, and at the time of the article, they were about to lose this last little place under a bridge somewhere in Florida, I think it was.

Shit, if you're going to give someone a death sentence for being a sex offender, just kill them.

Oddly enough, at my HOA meeting this evening, someone brought up building a park in the neighborhood and mentioned that it would keep sex offenders from being able to move in.

Never really been a fan of this notion of continuing to punish people after they've been released from prison. Or pre-emptively punishing in case they offend again. Either way.

Yeah, I am emphatically not a fan of this attorney general. He needs to go.

Of course I'm not worried, I always travel with all of my identification documents, several body guards, and a lawyer on retainer. Just making sure I have the full "protection" of the law that I'm assured of in this great country :-P

Actually, the article you linked about Miranda seems to be a big of fearmongering by exaggeration itself. I didn't see anywhere where the official policy of the White House was stated. The AG said the Administration had a new policy, and if Obama has any sense in his head, he'll issue a fast and hard reprimand for that.

And i have strong doubts that any congresscritter is going to vote on something that abridges rights like this in an election year. I also doubt that the Supreme court will allow any law like that to exist long enough for the ink to dry.

There must be great profit to be had in this enormous fear industry... naturally, I can't find the stock symbol anywhere; must be privately traded.

I saw something about the homeless sex offenders a few months ago actually, though from a different angle.

The density of schooling systems is so high in SF that there is -no legal place to live- for a sex offender.. Effectively, they are -required by law- to be homeless.

Which of course makes it easy to sew fear about homeless sex offenders and "Oh gawd, Mah chillins are gonna get raped!"

The fearmongering is one of the chief reasons I mostly gave up reading the news. I'm thinking of having a reasonably good newspaper - like the Mercury News - delivered on a Sunday, but by and large "not reading any news" has worked out pretty well.
