The Obesity Myth
Excerpt:
The biggest evidentiary problem for those who insist there is a strong causal link between increasing weight and heart disease is that deaths from heart disease have been plunging at precisely the same time that obesity rates have been skyrocketing.

While I have been losing weight lately, that's a side-effect of better eating habits and more exercise. It's not my priority.

I think this is neglecting the fact that we have made huge strides in making cholesterol-busting drugs that are keeping heart problems down.

Of course, we'll eventually likely have a way to just eliminate the threat of clogs entirely and the threat will go away entirely.

Of course, so far, I haven't really had any problems with weight, I'm not unlike my characters. I'm 24 now and my metabolism is still a furnace, so I'm not one to talk. The one time I got close to 200lbs was when I was interning in Boston, sitting at a desk for 12hours a day and eating 3000 calories plus, even then I stopped at 195lbs and wouldn't go above it.

Basically, my point is, that it will all be moot in 10years and we will probably be able eat everything we want, though that could cause other non-health problems I'm sure.

A declining death rate can trace to many factors; better medical treatment, improved emergency response, even more people trained in CPR.

During my first year in college, I gained about ten pounds, noticed it, and then cut out quite a bit of 'dessert' and 'junk' food, if I could. I lost 30 pounds in the next semester, and lost 20 pounds after that. I've gained ten pounds back, and I feel good at this weight, but I've done little extra-curricular exercise and what not, although I'm doing a couple of PE classes and am planning to continue such in the future. It's really a better feeling I suppose...I dunno.
