I loathe the use of the abbreviation "DnD" for Dungeons & Dragons.

It wouldn't bother me quite so much if I only saw l33tsp33king semi-literates using it, but I've seen it otherwise articulate, well-spoken, grammatically flawless writers use it as well.

Come on, people, is shift-7 that hard?

For my part, I file things like that in with the people who never touch their shift key except as required for making exclamation points or @'s (and then only the latter because it's required for an e-mail addy). And the people who may also be like that but who know exactly where their caps lock key is- and apparently use it more than any other single key on their keyboard. And the people who insist on putting the dollar sign after the number rather than before it. And the people who apostrophize every frickin' plural when it's only appropriate for a few... And......

I briefly had the urge to point out every single grammatical error in your paragraph, but I realize that joke has been done a dozen times before. ;)

My mother says she has told people that "Ampersand" was her maiden name because it wasn't worth her time to educate them. I don't want to know how many.

*snort* Most people don't even know the word "ampersand". Even less know the word "octothorpe".

Look at all the beautiful things the shift key does!

While I won't excuse the stylistic nature of a construct like 'DnD', I will say that 'D&D' requires one more keystroke than 'DnD', and typing 'DandD' would only require one more keystroke still, so D&D is of questionable efficiency. The most efficient would be 'dnd' without capitalization, but then one risks losing meaning. >;)

Actually, the way I type, "DnD" requires MORE keystrokes than "D&D". When I type D&D, I just keep the shift key depressed -- for DnD, I have to shift-unshift-shift, a sufficiently complex maneuver that I have to actively think about it.
