100 MOVIES THAT DESERVE MORE LOVE

Wow. I agree with enough of these entries that I may start looking for the ones on this list that I haven't seen yet....

A lot of those were very underrated. :)

Kinda makes me want to do an overrated movie list.

Oh yeah. Brotherhood of the Wolf. ;> Three words (four, if you don't count the hyphenated one). Chain-linked bone sword. It's quite excellent in it's original language.

YES! The only one I don't agree with is "Contact." all the others (the one's I've seen, that is) I agree with. I hope they list Hudson Hawk later.

I agree with them totally about The Iron Giant and Cable Guy. I think Cable Guy is really underrated -- watching it now, it almost seems to foreshadow Carrey's later appearance in The Truman Show. The Iron Giant was beautifully animated, and it made me cry (something not many movies do.)

I agree with them about Contact, though not as strongly. I did love the opening sequence, though.

As for Deep Rising and Mouse Hunt, I remember both of them as being okay but forgettable. Deep Rising is probably better if you like that kind of movie. (I'm not really into horror/suspense/action films.) I can't actually remember much of the plot of either of them.

The rest of the films they list I haven't seen.

I agree, yes! My own personal faves of faves from the list so far:

GATTACA - Easily one of the best *true* sci-fi movies ever made, IMHO. And worth paying close attetion to- that still may well be our future.

The Blob - A fun bit of horror that's a more than adequate remake of the original.

Contact - Another of the best sci-fi movies and not a half-bad adaptation of the book. It kept the spirit of the original which, IMHO, is more important than a strict adherence to specifics. The book and movie have both helped shape my view of the Universe in some ways. And gotten me using the word 'numinous' more than I probably should. };>

The Iron Giant - What can I say... This is the kind of movie I wish Disney were still capable of doing without outside help.

Top Secret - Val Kilmer. Singing.

Atlantis - Had a sense of 'wow!' to it that Disney movies have been missing lately IMHO, but it wasn't entirely without flaws. In particular some of the character designs (Vinny, Moliere) seem to be from an entirely different movie. And the story seems to rush a lot in the beginning- I'd love to have a 'director's cut' of this one if such a thing would ever come to be.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom - This got a lot of play on cable when I was coming into awareness of movies, so I actually liked this one more than the original for years, and in some ways still do... And yes, it was cool to imagine being Indy's sidekick back when I was that age. }:>

The story was indeed a "rush". The bean-counters made them cut a major action scene from the middle of the movie, not understanding that in an adventure film, the action scenes move the story along like the songs do in a standard Disney musical.

Alas, because the scene was never made, and the movie tanked, it's doubtful we'll ever see a "director's cut".

I know about that- that's why I'd like to see a director's cut. };>

And that's why I don't expect to see one. That and Disney never does that sort of thing. The closest they ever come is the inclusion of deleted scenes every now and then. When they feel like it.

Well, I guess I should say almost never. There was the "Human Again" addition to Beauty and The Beast, and the "Morning Report" addition to The Lion King, but those are somewhat different from this- and they were done to movies that were already considered masterpieces without the additions.

My faves from the list...

Of the ones that I've seen on this list, my faves are... (Not in any particular order...)

Young Sherlock Holmes, Iron Giant, Botherhood of the Wolf, Time After Time, Shadow of the Vampire, Birdy, and Ronin.

And a couple that I feel are underappreciated that are not on the list.

1941, Dark City, The 13th Warrior, Barbarosa, Baraka.... hmmmm, I know there are others, but that's all I can think of at the moment.

Not on the list YET. They were only up to #50 yesterday -- today was 51-75, and tomorrow, 76-100.

Loved several movies on that list, actually, though Iron Giant -- the most underrated animated feature in history -- and Gattaca topped the list.

I'm a molecular geneticist by trade, so Gattaca was interesting to me both on a technological level, and on an ethical level.

(For example there are no insta-gene sequencers yet...it still takes at least a couple of days to run a simple genetic test, and several MONTHS to sequence a simple genome. But that doesn't detract at all from the ethical issues.)
