quelonzia and I watched The Descent, an excellent, perfectly-paced, extremely tense and scary movie. It takes place in a nearly-lightless cave, and is filmed accordingly.
It's about a group of women who go spelunking. They take a wrong turn... there's a cave-in... one of them gets hurt... and just as you're all tensed up from this gripping, claustrophobic survival tale pitting human against nature...
THE HORROR MOVIE STARTS.
It left us both impressed. This is quite possibly one of the most effective horror movies we've ever seen. Almost an hour later, we were still rattled. Maybe we should have watched that one earlier in the night, instead of Right. Before. Bed.
We were both pretty amused at how much the movie had thrown us.
AND THEN THE POWER WENT OUT ON OUR SIDE OF THE STREET, LEAVING US IN PITCH DARKNESS.
