I really wish there was a way to watch all the marvelous animation for The Beatles: Rock Band without that annoying button-strip filling the middle of the screen, and without having to play multi-player Simon.

If you only use the microphone (karaoke?), wouldn't that minimize the overlay?

I am a little surprised there's no watch-mode on these games... its really difficult to enjoy the scenery when you're focused on the key-pressings, but I suppose they assume we have these 'friend' things that we can watch while they play...

You can.

"No fail"
"Performance mode"

You can't fail, so the song won't end, and performance mode (or something, might be named differently) takes the UI away completely.

It's funny, I was lamenting to my wife that I'd "never" be able to watch all the visuals because I had to be playing. Now I know the first thing I'm going to check out when I get home... thanks!

The one thing I'd suggest is to pick "vocals" as your instrument when you do it. If you pick one of the guitars or drums as your instrument, that track will be muted slightly (because you'll be missing all the notes in the game of Simon Says that you can't see), but the game doesn't do that for the vocals if you're not singing.
