We would also have accepted "Cygnus X-1."

It was in the running, but, um... when you're JUST working with the title, it kind of puts the "FINAL" in "Final Destination".

How long did it take you to do this? I'm just curious. :)

Hm. I was multi-tasking at the time, so I wasn't strictly paying attention. 45-90 minutes?

Not sure about most of this meme, but my personal theme song has always been "Emotion Detector". One of their least-known songs, and one of their best from the prog-rock era, IMHO. :)

Rush's whole CAREER has been a prog-rock era. =D

And "Emotion Detector" was one of the set I was listening to when I whipped this up.

Yeah, but their beginnings were much more hard-rock then prog rock. So much so that alot of their old-line fans seem to basically pretend that the mid-80s to early-90s never happened!

Though, IMHO, it was one of the reasons that Vapor Trails didn't sell so well. It was Rush back to its roots -- unfortunately, the old-line fans that appreciated that were the only ones buying!

I dunno. Their first two or three albums leaned more to the hard side -- though the second album, Fly By Night, had a LOT of progressive elements. 2112 was the fourth album, and was solidly prog rock.

That's just my perspective, though, and I don't really obsess over pigeonholing music genres like some fan(atics) do. I just know that without Neil Peart, Rush (the album) doesn't sound much like Rush (the band).

Apparently, Vapor Trails had technical issues that contributed to its poor reception. It's not so much that it was "hard rock" as "badly recorded". I've heard live versions of some of its tracks, and they sounded much better.
