I just spoke to my mother on the phone, and she had her own memories of the landing.

"We all sat up and watched every minute of the landing. People asked me later, 'how could you let your children stay up until all hours like that?' And I'd answer, 'how could I not?'"

How irresponsible of your mother to help you watch one of the pivotal events in human history! What's more important, the exploration of space or making sleepies for one night?! Clearly a sign of an advanced degenerate.

Considering that, a few years later, she married a black man, vocally supported abortion, cheered when her eldest daughter came out as bisexual, and as recently as 48 hours ago marched in a Gay Pride parade at the age of 69... yeah, it was a pretty good sign.

We DID go to bed eventually....but we also definitely saw Armstrong set foot on the moon, and bounce around a little, too.

Never occurred to anyone to do things differently. Hell, this is one of the events that would be in ANY history book.

That's the same reason I was late for school on the morning the Challenger blew up. My dad thought it would be more educational to see the shuttle launch than to be on time for math class that particular day. As I recall, he was in the middle of a lecture about how well-educated those people were, how much math they studied, etc, etc, when. . .
