It just arrived today. Haven't really had time to play with it. I need to scream at the wireless router this weekend; it's being st00pid again. So far, though, the Eee is NICE. Tiny keyboard, but I'm getting used to it. The high resolution makes the little screen seem loads bigger than the grainy 600x800 of the Transnote.

If nothing else, I'll be able to curl up in my Comfy Chair and read ebooks!

Hmm. I've tried using the 900 series Eees' keyboards and I just couldn't. The 1000 series were just fine though...

I've seen a eee. Not interested; the AspireOne that I own has a slightly nicer keyboard layout, and the same 1024x600 screen resolution.

My co-worker picked up an ASUS Eee very similar to yours (I don't know if it is the exact same model), and I do have to admit that there were certain feelings of jealousy on my part.

I think for most of what I do it may not cut the mustard (compiling and sometimes art), but I think for anybody that wants nice portable 'net access and/or does a lot of writing and research, that would be a great thing. That being said, I think I'd still like one... but I'm still saving for the wedding.

The neat thing about using netbooks to read ebooks is that the Intel graphics driver allows you to rotate the screen display to portrait mode with hotkeys, so you can get full book pages onscreen. (The options are in the menus when you right-click the tray icon for the Intel driver.) So, hotkey-rotate the screen, fullscreen the reader program, and you come pretty close to a Kindle but without the greyscale one-trick-pony aspects. I prefer having the display on the right with the keyboard on the left, but to each their own.

Alas, the Linux version doesn't seem to have that graphics driver button.
