I should have made the post about how riding a bike while wearing your iPod earbuds has gone from merely stupid to downright STOOPID now that there are nearly-silent hybrids and electrics on the road; yes, I found myself stuck behind Mister Clueless Voluntary Deaf Bicyclist a week or two back.

This is a time when I'm actually glad I don't wear earbuds (I find them just plain uncomfortable). I have yet to encounter a moving vehicle (besides a bicycle) that doesn't make enough noise to hear.

Of course, now that I have a motorized vehicle and spend more time on the street than the sidewalk, I've stopped wearing headphones while travelling. Catching up on my podcasts has consequently gotten more difficult.

Huh, around here it's the damn -law- to have them on as I recall. Fog, headlights must be on. Is it raining enough to have to use your wipers? Lights on, etc.

I have found this does not help. Despite a law "wipers on? headlights on" here, I have been driving in lengthy downpours and found several cars without a single bulb illuminated. And what policeman wants to get out in that to just probably give the guy a warning to make him turn on the lights which will just be off again when the car is started again. Couple those with the idiots who drive around with rear fogs on all the time and it's a wonder these people haven't been head-on'd or rear-ended into oblivion yet.
