The Emergency Back-Up Doctor Who Recording worked just fine. quelonzia and I just watched the finale.

And now we're all weepy. =)

Russell T. Davies is pretty much forgiven for any less-than-stellar scripts. This was magnificently over-the-top and epic, and if it lacked some coherency here and there, well, somehow, that just contributed to the glorious madness of it all.

So now, what... no new Who for two years?

Incorrect

No full season in 2009. There will be I believe 4 to 5 Specials over 2008-2009 starting with the Christmas special in 2008.

Doctor Who returns for a full season in 2010 with Stephan Moffet running the show. (Wrote Blink, Silence in the Library, Forest of the Dead. You know, the really really good Who episodes)

Thanks! That's what my cursory web search indicated. Christmas special 2008, three other specials, then Season 5 starts in 2010 (just in time for another Saturn mission to see what happened to HAL and Discovery).

Word is that Tennant will star in the specials, but I've seen no confirmation that he'll return for Season 5. I hope so; I quite enjoy him, and now that they've finally worked him through his Rose Angst Story Arc, I'm eager to see where he and Moffat will take The Doctor.

No confirmation on Tennant for 2010 series. The break was done partially because he is staring in Hamlet with Patrick Stewart (Stage) in the upcoming year and partially to make the fans want it more.

I hope they pay him a bucketful of money to comeback.

I'd heard that another reason for the break was to spruce up the TARDIS set so that it wouldn't look crappy when they started filming in HD.

Heh. I'd heard that they didn't INTEND to start filming in HD, for reasons not entirely unconnected to that.

I'm glad that you agree with my view that the finale was over-the-top and epic (I may have used those exact some words). I don't know how a viewer couldn't get swept up and carried away by all that action and drama.

And yeah, the resolution of the season does leave one feeling a bit emotional. But I like that.
