Midwest Quake!

For those of you in the Midwest who were rudely awakened by the quake this morning, here's the USGS data page for it:

Living in California, I keep the USGS site bookmarked under "Local Weather", but I suspected you folks in the Midwest might not have them handy.

Looks like it was a wee bit on the strong side towards the middle there. Hopefully nobody was injured.

Well I apparently slept through it, but it does explain why Patches was unusually vocal a bit earlier than normal. She was inventing new sounds rather desperately.

Gah, confusing city names... why must they all be unoriginal. It took me a few passes over the image to figure out it was Illinois and not local.

The map makers just finally realized that 'crap this place is huge' and decided they were too lazy to keep on drawing all those lines.

Myself and the hubby are fine. :) (About 3 hours north of the epicenter.) We probably slept through it as our upstairs neighbors are usually loud and dropping things at all hours. Felt one of the aftershocks around 10ish, though.

I was already half-awake from sleeping lightly when it hit, and it jolted me awake. My room, and the various dragon sculpture globes within were shaking about, and I vaguely thought about getting under the doorway...but only if it got worse. Ten seconds later it stopped, and I went back to sleep. But it was an experience nonetheless. Despite the Madrid faultline being near enough, we rarely get a tremor. This hardly felt life-threatening, but it'll be interesting to remember.

Doesn't seem to have amounted to much. But mid-continent earthquakes always worry me, because I know about New Madrid.
