Lakota Secession Update
Dec. 20th, 2007 02:08 pmThe Sioux Falls paper published an article suggesting that Russell Means and his associates are self-appointed spokespeople with no real authority in the Lakota nation.
Of course, Means has accused the "legitimate" tribal governments as "...the Vichy Indians... set up by the United States of America to ensure our poverty, to ensure the theft of our land and resources," and I can see his point.

They're free to take their families or even their extended families and live anywhere they want. You can say it's not their "heritage" to leave like that, but then I'd love to hear your alternatives.
By way of a little explanation, I grew up on a Santee Sioux reservation. I can't say I'm much of a fan of the gigantic "white guilt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_guilt)" thing a lot of people have.
