On the recommendation of [livejournal.com profile] shatterstripes, I'm currently reading Samuel R. Delany's Babel-17.

[livejournal.com profile] normanrafferty? [livejournal.com profile] pyat? This is the kind of stuff I want in a Space Opera game.

hrmm. The hypothesis that language affects thinking is one I'd considered for a long time. Whether I read it somewhere or came up with it on my own I don't know. But yet again you have pointed out to me that a concept I used myself had a formal name and a long history.

Kind of disappointing. One of these days I'll come up with something original, but it will probably be insane. :D

Did I ever inflict on you _The Language of Emotion?_ I like that story, but damned if I can seem to get anyone to wade through it. Partly because the language is difficult, I guess. But since the language tells you how the protagonist's mind works (and, conversely, the sort of programming that formed his mind,) I could never see how I could get around it. A disappointment, that story. I thought people would love it.

Yes, I LOVED that story!

I think we talked about the Worf-Sapir Hypothesis back then, too.
