It's in our nature to describe something new in terms of something familiar.

The railroad was the Iron Horse. The automobile was the Horseless Carriage. The radio was the Wireless Telegraph.

The sword was the Iron Claw.

Now, admittedly, the IC/JC system is more than merely Dungeons & Dragons with Fuzzy Ears and Tails. A local fur asked me once, "So, what's the difference between this and Second Edition AD&D?", to which I replied, "...life is more than dungeon crawls?"

Still, someone's initial reaction to a new coat is to look for a familiar mental coathook to hang it on. This makes the new both approachable and comprehensible. And Gygax's system, because of its place in history, is going to be the default coathook for RPGs.

The task ahead, then, is to promote IronClaw such that IT becomes the default coathook. There are surely some who already refer to Furry Pirates as "Seafaring Ironclaw".

Actually, The Gneech pegged it -- I was responding to his post about playing D&D with homebrewed furry rules, not by someone who was describing Ironclaw thusly.

D&D already has the potential for being rather "furry" if your DM lets it be so. What with their being rules for playing most of the monster n' critter classes as PC's. :) I've had everything from lizardfolk, to dragon-taurs, gnolls, yadda. Makes for interesting gameplay.
