Indirectly. Kinda.

Today's Order of the Stick makes a specific and deliberate reference to Conservation of Ninjitsu, a law first identified and formulated by Your Obedient Serpent.

I like how the examples cover two out of three of my top triumvirate of fandoms, Doctor Who and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But I can't think of a Star Trek example myself. The Enterprise Incident? Naw, there wasn't a battle, Kirk bluffed out of it (actually his preferred strategy). I'm stumped.

The structure of D&D is designed, really, with the Conservation of Ninjitsu in mind. You KNOW that a lot of similar foes are, almost by the internal definition of the system, going to be low CR -- it's the way the game is designed, so that each encounter uses 1/4th of the party resources, on average. So, lots of foes? You know they're going to be individually weak. One foe? A bad ass mo' fo'. ;)

And I shall validate that Athelind has been preackin' the Conservation of Ninjitsu for at least as long as I've known him. So . . . something like 18 years? ;)

The new page on Dr. McNinja (http://drmcninja.com/page.php?pageNum=18&issue=8) goes even further with it and offers explanation.

Isn't this rather like the computation of the IQ of a mob?

Take the highest IQ of the brightest individual in the mob, divide by the number of people in the mob = the IQ of the mob as a whole.

Wasn't called the conservation of intelligence when I read it, just the rule of mob IQ (or something like that).
