A question that often comes up when discussing the absolute debacle of the last seven years is whether or not things would have gone as badly after 9/11 if Al Gore had actually been sworn in as President after winning the 2000 election.

From all the information I have at my disposal:

President Gore would not have attacked Iraq, a country that had nothing to do with the destruction of the World Trade Center.

George Bush and his cohorts would have attacked Iraq, even if the events of 9/11 had not occurred.

Pure speculation on my part here but Gore most likely would not have treated the armed forces like they were a plastic bucket of army men from K-Mart - disposable and cheap.

But in Iraq?

We wouldn't have troops in Iraq if the president did not look upon them as his own personal toys.

Okay, but what I'm asking is, are you saying that Gore would have sent troops to Iraq?

If not, where you say he'd've sent them?

How is stating that Bush regards the military as toys to play in the sandbox as he chooses saying that Gore would have sent troops anywhere?

I'm not understanding your logic here at all.

Okay, I see the source of my confusion now: I misread your original comment. I read, "Gore most likely would [emphasis mine] have treated the armed forces like they were a plastic bucket of army men." Sorry for the bother.

I would imagine that Gore would have sent troops into afghanistan, rooted out the camps there, and stayed there with a sufficient force level so that it could have been rebuilt properly.

How about only to Afghanistan?

Well, except that during the 8 years of Clinton's Presidency, the US was attacking Iraq, with an estimated death toll of between 500,000 to 1,000,000 Iraqi civilians, as calculated by the UN. I agree that Gore would not have physically invaded Iraq, but I don't think he ever said that he would lift the bombing campaign the US and UK waged against the Iraqi civilian population.

'course. They had been wanting to attack Iraq for years, even before 9/11 happened. They just used that as a triggering event, so they could go in and make a lot of money. Thats all its about after all, money.
