'Tis the season...
Dec. 14th, 2006 01:56 pmAs the Solstice draws nigh, with so many other winter holidays riding merrily on its coat-tails, I'd like to share a memory of my youth. This is an old holiday favorite of mine; we sang it at school and at home, and to this day, it brings a smile to my heart as it sums up the true meaning of the season.
Sing along if you know the words!
Chipmunks roasting on an open fire
Jack Frost ripping off your clothes
Wicker men being thrown on a pyre
And folks dressed up like buffaloes
Ev'rybody knows a turkey slaughtered in the yard
Helps to make the season bright
Tiny tots with their eyes all gouged out
Will find it hard to see tonight
They know that Santa's on his way!
He's loaded lots of lethal weapons on his sleigh!
And every mother's child is gonna spy
To see if reindeer really scream when they die!
And so, I'm offering this sacrifice
Of kids from one to ninety-two...
Although it's been said, many times, many ways...
Merry Christmas... to you!
Sing along if you know the words!
Jack Frost ripping off your clothes
Wicker men being thrown on a pyre
And folks dressed up like buffaloes
Ev'rybody knows a turkey slaughtered in the yard
Helps to make the season bright
Tiny tots with their eyes all gouged out
Will find it hard to see tonight
They know that Santa's on his way!
He's loaded lots of lethal weapons on his sleigh!
And every mother's child is gonna spy
To see if reindeer really scream when they die!
And so, I'm offering this sacrifice
Of kids from one to ninety-two...
Although it's been said, many times, many ways...
Merry Christmas... to you!

Advertising wond'rous things!
Angels we have heard on high
Tell us to go out and buy.
My own efforts in this area were more topical to my experiences at the Screwnaversity of Michigan. To give you an idea how I feel about them, I still get their alumni magazine. I have managed to convince the other schools I went to not to send me theirs, but I still get the U of M one. I throw it away as soon as it arrives, but I like the fact that they had to spend money on postage to mail it to me.
Oh exam week, our lights are brightly shining,
This is the week we all cram for our tests.
Oh exam week, our spirits are declining,
This is the week we all hope for the best.
But in some room the grading has begun
And we've all flunked, yes, each and every one.
Down on your knees
And beg of your professors
Noel, noel,
What a sad time for exams!
Noel, noel,
What a poor time for exams!
