This includes the World Cup.

Seriously, my Friends list is usually pretty free of such drivel. Superbowl Sunday? Everyone's talking about RPGs. World Series? We're more interested in the next big Comics Crossover.

Even the friggin' OLYMPICS barely get noticed in my crowd. And I like that.

The World Cup rolls around, and suddenly, People Who Should Know Better are blathering endlessly about it.

Gaaah.

Because you have no interest in it doesn't mean others don't take great fun in sporting events. To simply dismiss one form of recreation and enjoyment is the same if I marched in and saying "The new race in WoW is not news!"

Like the news on the television, it can be simply turned off.

If you like soccer, and you're an American, it's a sign of how cool and internationally hip and with it you are, hehe. If you obsess over football, you're a crass, beer swilling boor. If you obsess over soccer, you're an elite sophisticate rejecting the banality of American sports. Which might be a little cynical, but there it is.
