I've seen places do that for years. There's no oversight of the law, and no enforcement. I've even had employers tell me "WE don't pay overtime here."

Dubya would just "legally" recognise what big bizness has been doing all along.

I can't wait for our economy, and society to turn into Mexico City, then there will be nobody to buy thier crap.

Ever wonder why it is that I'm not exactly motivated to rejoin the workforce? Long hours. Compensation denied whenever possible. Vacation time that's laughable. Retirement funds that will be looted from by the execs. Just what the hell do I have to do in order to have some time to myself now and again and maybe be able to set up a moderately comfortable retirement for myself? The answer might be "leave the U.S." if this keeps up. And don't think I'm not considering it.

This is really annoying, I'm going to try to to find the paper, but an Economist once wrote a paper that 8hours of sleep and 8hours of work five days a week was the most efficient work hours without even taking into acount human fraility and need of sleep. It just works out perfectly due to actual economic measures, not just our need for sleep and relaxation. So in general overtime is not really economically viable, even if you get paid more for it.

Of course I should be talking, I 've worked 60+hours a week and 35days straight in a row until today =)

This would suck for people out there who are paid hourly and can actually earn overtime (unlike a lot of hourly jobs in which the company will have a rule against employees working over 40 hours a week because they don't want to pay out overtime -- a legal way of avoiding OT pay, at least.) It would suck IF it would pass. I don't think this will pass at any rate. However, just its mere proposal reminds me why I voted Democrat. Although they do stupid stuff all the time, too. Sigh. :)
