Flash has stopped working properly in Firefox. If I go directly to an SWF file, I can see it, but if one is loaded as part of an HTML page, nothing happens.

I think that's happening with other video formats, too, but I'm not sure. I KNOW it's happening with Shockwave.

Any suggestions?

Oh, and let me respond ahead of time to useful "suggestions" like "Flash is worthless anyway" and "ha ha, just use Internet Explorer" with a cordial invitation to fornicate with one's self.

Weird - I use Firefox, and I haven't noticed an inability to view SWF or other video formats inside HTML Pages...

Nor has my wife. This isn't "FireFox doesn't do this"; this is "something broke in my copy of FireFox." And... it's only been happening for, I dunno, maybe a week? Flash worked just fine and dandy until a few days ago.

Maybe... it's the new video card? That makes no SENSE, but, you know, it's the only significant change in my system that I can think of. And like Holmes always said, once you've eliminated the impossible...

Maybe it's Infinite Crisis. These Crisis things are always hard on Flashes.

Sounds like the Flash plugin has been damaged. I had this happen once too. Try reinstalling the Flash plugin? I've also heard there's a problem with the new Quicktime "stealing" SWF file handling, and that reinstalling the Flash plugin (allegedly) fixes it.

Hope this helps.

Alas, that was the FIRST thing I'd tried.

I've had this happen to different computers running FireFox... the Flash plugin just stops working properly (usually after a FireFox update), and reinstalling the plugin did not help. Aye ended up having to remove all traces of FireFox from the system and reinstall it to fix it again :/

Augh.

It seems to be Adblock-related -- if I turn off Adblock, I can see Flash -- but then I also see just how many nasty pop-ups have infected teh Web while I've been blissfully browsing in FF.

Well,

Do you use the Adblock plugin for Firefox, Athe? It doesn't play well with the latest version of Flash. You have to disable 'Obj-Tabs' I think it was, in the preferences for Adblock.

If someone else hadn't mentioned this I would have. That's the problem I had when I upgraded flash. A quick google, uncheck one box, all's good again. :)

I haven't noticed any other video in webpage issues, but then I don't frequent many "enhanced" webpages (and if Cartoon Networks schedule hadn't been broken I probably would not have noticed it for a very long time.)

Obj-Tabs? Coolness! Let me try that.

Yep, that bugged me for quite awhile too. I had to look through the FAQs at Mozilla's site before I found the explanation and solution. I mentioned it on my journal a few weeks back, because I figured a lot of people would be having the same problem.

Did you upgarde to FF 1.5?

That might be the problem, it's doing it here as well, starting after I upgarded to FF 1.5. I would imagine reinstalling flash would definately do the trick.

If reinstalling flash doesn't help, drop me a line. There are a few other quick remedial steps I usually try. :)
