In Crawford County, PA, here in the northwestern part of the state, there actually is a Townville. It's just a borough, though, not a city. There is also a Centerville which is not in the middle of anything except Nowhere, and Linesville which is almost, but not quite, on the state line with Ohio.
There's also a real City of Townsville in Queensland, Australia.
I used to work for the Department of Redundancy Department. It was my job to write the weekly notices that the Department of Redundancy Department, for which I worked, would be closed Saturday, Sunday, and for the weekend. This would cover the entire period from Midnight Friday through midnight Sunday, covering all Saturday and Sunday and the weekend. We had also been closed the previous weekend, including saturday and Sunday, because it was and always had been the policy and procedure of the Department of Redundancy Department to be closed on all days except Monday through Friday. But of course we were closed on the weekends. It is in fact still the policy of the Department of Redundancy Department to be closed weekends, Saturdays, and Sundays, except on those occasions where weekends fall on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, which they never do. And also, they don't.
I know the City of Daly City well. Just south of San Francisco proper. The reason for this is actually to designate it as an actual 'city' (a civic designation), not simply a town or village calling itself 'Something City.' But yes, it's ludicrous, I fully grant.
