"Miracle Mice" grow back limbs, organs
Scientists have created a "miracle mouse" that can regenerate amputated limbs or badly damaged organs, making it able to recover from injuries that would kill or permanently disable normal animals.

The experimental animal is unique among mammals in its ability to regrow its heart, toes, joints and tail.

The researchers have also found that when cells from the test mouse are injected into ordinary mice, they too acquire the ability to regenerate. (emphasis mine)

"I'm the best there is at what I do -- and what I do ain't pretty. They call me... Miracle Mouse!"

The real question is, what else does the mouse have? Drawbacks to this miracle gene? Is its lifespan shortened, lengthened, more susceptible to diseases or injuries, even if it can regenerate? That's what I wonder.

Disease might be more of lesser matter, considering the body could arguable heal what damage is left by pathogens. But the main concern to me is what you already mention about life span. Regeneration of any sort requires a lot of raw materials and unless the subject is eating just the right diet, some of the stuff is going to be taken from elsewhere in the body. And with time, such could stack up.

FUCKING FUCK.

That's super cool.

However, one does wonder when these mice are going to turn into supercancer.
