I've got a feeling what's going on is the feds are saying,"Well Nagin, did you support our administration in the last election? No? Well then we believe you've got everything you need at the moment and we'll get to you when we get to you."

Now had it been Florida and Jeb in danger or NY with 9/11, we'd have seen a blindingly fast response.

Just heard the Mayor's on-air radio comments broadcast on NBC. There was...quite a fair number of bleeps.

I think it says exactly what he thinks of the situation. Can't say I blame him....here in Florida, we were complaining when it took three days for help to arrive after Charlie nailed us by surprise. They knew ahead of times New Orleans was going to get it (indeed, were expecting worse then they initially got), and it's only four days later that supplies start arriving in quantity.

One thing my mother brought up to me which I think is a valid point. It has been no secret that New orlenas was a vulnerable city from the get go. But over the years the people and government there have become comfortable with hurricanes, having been spared direct hits obviously for quite a while. Polls taken in the city showed that if a large hurricane came an astonishing number of folks either would not leave or could not leave. To those that would not leave, good luck.
So with the advent of such disaster always looming in the future (everyone knew it was not a question of if..but when) what did the city do to plan to get those folks out of there? Nothing. Something should have been done BEFORE to get the needy and helpless out of the city. Schools would have been closed, so the school buses could have been used to ship as many folks out as possible. You load up 60 folks on the hundreds of buses in New Orleans, Take folks a few hours out of the city, come back and get more, and 24 hours later youve got a very good majority of the folks now Screwed in this mess out of harms way before it happens.
Now, the logistics of fixing the city after such a disaster is obviously NOT something you can prepare for on this level. But evacuation of those unable to evacuate themselves should have always been a top priority for the city.

Perhaps they figured that would be too much trouble to try to bus folks out, and then have the storm turn away. But look how much trouble they are in now.

Meh... I wouldn't quite go as far as to declare him as president. All I heard was a man who was just venting reasonable frustrations that just about any other person in that situation would do.
