Warner Bros. Announces New,
Inoffensive Loonatics Design.

I hope you're happy now.

Look at them. They're... happy. And smiling. And, well, hopelessly watered-down. Those wonderful, sleek, sharp, stylized character designs... Barneyfied. With big, happy eyes with whites and pupils and irises.

I miss the Glowing Wedges Of Color.

It's so Safe, it's offensive in its own right. Hell, the Looney Tunes were never this Friendly And Reassuring. I don't see a hint of subversion or mischief in those Big Friendly Eyes. Visually, there was a whole lot more o' Bugs in Buzz Bunny than in "Ace".

Everyone was horrified that the original Loonatics were going to be "violent super-heroes" -- but note that the reason that you can't find the original Looney Tunes anywhere but Boomerang, an obscure pay channel, is because parent groups objected to the violence of the classic cartoons.

I had no love for the original Loonatics but these designs are a hundred times worse.

I kinda liked them better when I first saw them and it was called "Bucky O'Hare and the Toad Wars"

Hey, it took a lot of effort to draw pupils in and rotate the frame by 20 degrees. They even came up with a better name for Duck than "Duck". Who could ask for more? O_o

I repeat,

They look so . . . "Power Rangers!"

Don't worry, these designs are not final. Once the American Family Association gets a load of the pink triangle on Lexi and the Purple Triangle on Spaz, they will turn their great engine of Homophobic Paranoid Fantasy against it.

Heh!

Though... I think they look more like "The Backstreet Boysunnies" than Power Rangers.

It does look like more of an album cover than a TV show, doesn't it? What's scary is, I sort of like the pose and style they gave the lead 'Bugs-like' character. I still don't care much for it either way, but this might be a bit better.

*cries* The travesty. Why must everything be candy coated and sterilized to this point? Throw enough visual sugar at a child and their brains will rot... they will become mindless walking zombies... slaves to the machine with no thoughts of their own save being a good little citizen.
But wait... that is exactly what they want now isn't it...

Wow. The Bruce Timm rip off designs looked a lot better. Changing the designs so that they no longer fit the initial idea, still doesn't fix the problem that the initial idea was pretty lame.

I've aways kind of wondered if any kid, anywhere, ever actually imitated the violence in a Loony Tunes cartoon.

Of course kids have imitated the violence in classic WB cartoons. That's why you see people pounding each other with mallets, and dropping anvils on heads, and so forth ^_^

And strapping people to large firework-style rockets before shooting them skyward to a demise in an explosion that violates at least six atmospheric test ban treaties...

My god, I've seen better artwork on lined notebook paper posted to VCL!

(Download the hi-res image for extra awfulness. Really looks like it was drawn by the boss' nephew or something.)

Wouldn't be capitalism if they weren't willing to change everything about the product based on how well they feel it'll appeal to the target audience.

Well, I didn't care about the original designs much one way or the other. These are genuinely freaky.

Honest opinion?

The old designs were cheap, crappy rip offs of animation styles done better before, to try and capture "what kids want."

These new designs are bland, crappy rip pffs of even older styles done better before, to try and capture "what kids and parents want."

Everything I've seen about this shown even before the changes just made it seem like a marketing ploy to bring in new toy lines. It never seemed like the artists actually cared about what they were making at any point.

...a marketing ploy to bring in new toy lines.

That's the reason a good many cartoons get made in the first place. Heh.

Some but not all.

Granted, I'd buy a robot bee.

I wasn't really excited over this show in the first place, but I wasn't about to just give up on cartoons. Now though...okay, so the point -was- to have some badarse-looking cartoon heroes based on the old Looney Toons. Now they have...softcore Looney Toons trying to play hero? o.=.O

Meh. The old design sucked, and this one is honestly only marginally better.

Of course, they could've made a good show with either. I guess we'll just have to see.

The reason I was personally horrified wasnt the violence. It was the wholesale rape of the classic WB characters.

AS opposed to "Baby Looney Tunes" or "Tiny Tune Adventures".
