I am deeply, deeply amused.
Mar. 8th, 2005 09:41 amSince Enterprise first hit the airwaves, I've made no secret of my distaste. I'm used to the Star Trek franchise not being the best Science Fiction by SF standards, but Enterprise wasn't even very good Star Trek.
I have said, in the past, that the only way one can reconcile Enterprise with the established Trek Canon is to assume that it is, in fact, the 24th-Century equivalent of Sam Raimi's Hercules and Xena: fantasy shows with a vaguely historical setting, chock full of inaccuracies and anachronisms, enjoyed mostly for the cheesy humor value of being so damned B-movie bad.
I was right.
Update: thanks to
tealfox for pointing this one out to me last week, though I didn't see it until today!

Date: 2005-03-08 06:41 pm (UTC)Of course, it's possible that the Killer Bees will set their phasers on the highest Voyager wank setting and actually go for claiming the entire thing was a recreation in the holodeck which puts historical accuracy into question.

Date: 2005-03-08 06:50 pm (UTC)When Spock managed to exaggerate, mislead, or Omit Important Information, those around him were invariably astonished at his amazing inVulcan abilities.
Every other appearance of Vulcans in every other Trek show confirmed this.
As soon as Enterprise centered an entire episode around a whole BUNCH of Vulcans LYING THROUGH THEIR TEETH in response to DIRECT QUESTIONS, any pretense the show had to "historical accuracy" fell apart.

Date: 2005-03-08 07:33 pm (UTC)I suppose fans could have waited to see where it was going, and indeed, they eventually got there. The character of Vulcans was so obvious, so set in stone, I think it was pretty bloody easy for most any writer working on Enterprise to grasp what a traditional Vulcan was supposed to be like. Heh, over the course of the series, I wonder how many times Archer or another human remarked something to the effect "Dang, you Vulcans advertise logic and truth but sure aren't living up to it."
I mean, it seemed kinda obvious to me that the writers of Enterprise actually had some idea of what they were doing. Even if a lot of fans didn't LIKE it, it's just my opinion that the show wasn't as bad - or poorly constructed - as the more scornful enjoy portraying it as.
