Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] paka for inspiring this one...

What novel, comic book, or other property would you most like to see filmed, and who should star in them?

[livejournal.com profile] paka suggested that an Elric of Melnibone film should either star Johnny Depp or be animated by Peter Chung. Either possibility makes me go "oooooh".

Me? I'd love to see The Stars My Destination, with Vin Diesel as Gully Foyle. Unfortunately, Gully and Riddick have a few too many common points -- being sent to a lightless cavern prison is pretty distinctive a gimmick.

Oh Gods

Transmetropolitan, for sure. I'd love to see such a depraved, nitty-gritty futuristic political scape like that made reality for a good two hours. And I have to agree with the fanbase that Patrick Steward would make an awesome Spider Jerusalem.

Pat would make a good Spider, and in fact he's expressed interest in the role, or so I hear. (He's actually a big fan of Transmetropolitan, and apparently rants on occasion like a certain journalist.) He is a bit old though...

Yup

So I heard as well!

Pat may be old, but so was Spider, after all. And he does a really good angry badass.

Tough one! But...

I'd have to say either The IllEarth War series, by Steven R. Donaldson, which would be cool to see done as a live-action movie (with Christian Bale as the white-gold weilder, himself) or animated by David Finch and Frank D'armata.

My other choice would be to finally see ElfQuest done (like has been talked about for a few years, now) in movie/animation format, though I have no idea who would be good for that one, if it were done as live-action.

Of the two, though, ElfQuest would be much more impressive to see on the big screen, imho; particularly if they did it as live-action and got some good footage of real wolves.

I'd love to see the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant on the screen in any kind of format, animated or live-action.... provided the moviemakers would stay the hell away from making it kid-friendly or trying to prod it into being more light-hearted fare.

Christian Bale seems all right for the lead role - I hope he can look suitably hot-eyed and prophetic with a full beard. :)

Neuromancer, although I don't know who I'd like to see in it.

Hmm.

Who would make a good Case... Gee. Uhh...I'd rather they dug up someone new. Not one of the actors chosen to play hackers has been convincing, unless you're talking merely complexion, in which case Keanu Reeves was well-cast.

GrimJack but who could play John?

An obvious answer from me, Honor Harrington staring Angelina Jolie.

Or Flanker though I'm not sure who I'd want for voices for the dragons and raptors (and ships) or who I'd want playing the few humans involved. I really need to read the latest editions. :)

You know, if Elektra can get her own movie, Wolverine definitely merits his own. Sure, he doesn't have breasts, but come on, beserker rages, samurai, ninja, honor combat, breathtaking Canadian wilderness, and Hugh Jackman as the main character?

Mmm,

I'd personally like to see some of Anne McCaffery's work set to film. The Pern world is the obvious choice...and judging from Dragonheart and the trailers for Reign of Fire, (couldn't be bothered to see the thing,) I'd say they have a good chance at making passable dragons.
Snow Crash would make an interesting Summer Blockbuster hacker/samurai/gritty-future film, but I'm sure they'd ruin it somehow. The Rat-Things would look like Terminators, the Kouriers would be Tank Girlish, and Raven would probably be played by The Rock. Oy.

...I think The Rock would be a GREAT Raven!

I'm not so sure about actors, but I know I'd love to see just about any Heinlein movie put up on the screen, provided they did it properly and whatnot. The Moon is a harsh mistress, 6th column, Beyond this Horizon... perhaps an accurate version of Starship Troopers... ^^()

Fox News and CNN seem to be busily preparing an updated version of Revolt in 2100/"If This Goes On..."

I've often thought of a movie based on Dragonlance novels, probably the four 'season' ones where the main heroes and villains are all located. It'd certainly be hard, as Dungeons & Dragons likely was to make, but still, you've got a plot line there, and people have done similar concepts.

As much as I'd love to see a Discworld movie I'd hate to see it for the same reasons. Hollywood would totally F it up. They are already ruining War of The Worlds & Hitchhikers Guide (yes I know they were Radio play's first but still.)
