As promised, Our Leader's economic policies are helping to ensure America's position in the financial world:

Declining Dollar Sucks World Economy Down With It

It's plain that his proven experience and savvy in the business world is just as applicable on the national economic front:

Morgan Stanley's Chief Economist Forsees "Economic Armageddon" in the United States

With that kind of success, it's good to know that his Administration plans More of the Same, only Moreso:

"Revenue-Neutral" Tax Proposals Ease Burden On Wealthy And Big Business; Eliminate Deductions for Employer-Sponsored Health Insurance

It's certainly a good thing we didn't put those tax-and-spend Democrats in office. They'd just have ruined the economy, like they did during the Clinton years.

But at least they have "moral clarity!" :)

I'm very focused on getting out of debt ASAP and putting my money into Euros or even (gasp) Canadian dollars.

How do you even start keeping money in other currencies? Some kind of broker?

Yes, currency trading is 24/7 so it's mostly specialized brokers or the 'uber' brokers that do it.

I'm just hoping the dollar doesn't collapse before Canada lets me in.

The lower the American dollar, the stronger the Canadian dollar. Start buying our currency now - even if it's only a bit at a time.

Are you actually applying to immigrate?

this guy, although they're a little heavy on the peak oil stuff, he's making a lot of sense.

Anyone who babbles about Peak Oil just makes me laugh.

And after burning bridges with that comment, let me explain why:

One of the Peak Oil claims is that oil discovery is now outweighed by oil production. This is true, but they never say why it happened.

Discoveries of oil in the 80's and 90's were quite crazy. Tons of oil was found The result?

Oil companies stopped looking for oil, not because they ran out, but because they didn't need to find anymore for awhile

Expect oil 'discoveries' to heat up VERY fast in the next decade.

References, please?

My main references are my professors, one of which worked for Exxon in the 80's and another who's a Senior VP Maersk-Sealand, a huge oil shipper.

I'll see if I can dig any papers on it though.

Note, before you say they're biased. Drastically raised oil-prices only make these companies more profitable. That's part of the reason why they haven't gone searching yet, they are enjoying the forced supply-constraint.

Those are pretty doom and gloom, but I've never seen a single effort by either party to try to fix the trade deficit, of course that's almost impossible for the government to do from what I understand.

Well, nto without instituting severe trade tarriffs. Which they only seem to be able to do to their best trading partner.

Severe tariffs would have other chilling effects. Protectionism is fairly widely accepted as one of the causes of the Great Depression.

And if you're speaking of China, I'd hardly call them 'best'. They're the worse, but also the most critical. There's a difference between best and most critical.

Actually, he was speaking of Canada. It has a lot to do with beef, softwood lumber, and fish. The simple fact is, America loves to make trade agreements that benefit them. As long as we were losing more than we gained, they were happy to keep up their side of the bargain. In the industries where Canada was getting ahead faster than their American business partners, though, the protectionist attitudes are alive and well.

Well, some of America's protectionism actually helps Canada in a freaky way.

Say a person wants to get lumber to do wood working on the east coast. He needs lumber from the pacific northwest.

It's actually cheaper to get lumber from Canada, than Washington state because of the US's shipping rules about needing US flagged ships that drive up port to port US costs.

That helps the Atlantic lumber market, but the real money isn't on the East Coast anymore when it comes to lumber. We've been unable to sell our softwood lumber out of BC for several years now because the government in Washington is illegally subsidizing American logging companies. The result has been thousands of layoffs on the West Coast. I have no idea if the situation is better down east, but with the collapse of the fisheries and constant overfishing by outside parties (mostly Danish and Spanish) the East Coast is basically in permanent depression mode anyway. All the drilling for oil in Newfoundland isn't going to change that overnight, if at all.

All I know, is the Canadian dollar is worth almost 85 cents US now. ^^ It was barely 72 cents when I came to AC last year. Every day our dollar goes up a few partial cents.
