Apparently, even though this has been going on for a week, the mainstream media aren't touching it -- even in Ohio.

Recount in Ohio A Sure Thing
A demand for a recount in Ohio can only be filed by a presidential candidate who was either a certified write-in candidate or on the ballot in that state. Both Green Party candidate David Cobb and Libertarian candidate Michael Badnarik will be demanding a recount. No other candidate has stated an intention to seek a recount and no other citizen or organization would have legal standing to do so in Ohio. The Cobb-LaMarche campaign is still exploring the possibility of seeking recounts in other states but no decision has been made yet.

Funny how the "irregularities" and "glitches" only favored Bush... including Bush wins in heavily-Democratic counties, Bush getting more votes than there are registered voters in some precincts, a high frequency of "spoiled" punch-card ballots in traditionally-Democratic communities, entire precints' worth of ballots getting shoveled into pick-ups with Bush-Cheney stickers on them...

If Kerry comes out ahead after all is said and done, I wonder if the Republicans will start whining, "Kerry conceded! No take-backs! You're trying to steal the election!!"

That is exactly what they will say, in amongst repeated, vehement denials. They will paint Kerry as trying to subvert American democracy despite a popular-vote loss. Their hypocrisy knows no bounds whatsoever.

Besides, even if there's proof, who's going to investigate this? The Justice Department? the CIA? :)

We're fucked, dude. It was fun while it lasted. All there is now is to get some popcorn and watch.

They'd better get their shit together by January...once Bush is sworn in again, they'll have firmer ground to stand on when they cry "No Take-Backs!!!"

The more I see, the more I repeat: You guys seriously need a chief electoral officer who is above reproach and not known to support any political party.

Your key words are "not known to."

It's a great concept but . . .

It seems to have worked fairly well in Canada for the last eighty-three years since the position was created.

I know it's not perfect, but any move towards a transparent electoral process would be a good one.

That might be interesting. But, in the end, who knows what will happen. I was almost hoping that there would be an electroal victory for Kerry after a popular victory for Bush. The phrase "Payback's a bitch, ain't it?" came to mind. But then again, I'm not sure I'd wish that kind of presidency upon Kerry... and either way, the Repubs would hate him for 'stealing' it from their new saint, and he'd bear the brunt of a white-hot anger that even Clinton didn't face for "doing the same" to Bush I.
