58% is a pretty impressive voter turnout.

It's truly unfortunate that they seem to be turning out to send the United States of America careening into theocratic fascism.

Maybe things will look better in the morning.

It's interesting you bring up the term 'theocratic'. I found out from my Brother that my Father had voted for Kerry. Now, my Father has been a pretty regular Republican voting guy (being a CPA and all). When asked why, he said "I don't like how Bush is forcing his religion down everybody's throat." And this is from a guy with a sister-in-law who's a nun.

I didn't assume it was accidental, but it isn't something most people bring up. On either side.

That's the problem, alas.

I think part of it is that in some circles every time one does, they get accused of being antireligious or persecuting the Christians, or what-have-you. Accusations that often come from the people who believe in pushing that sort of agenda, in my personal experience.

Ah, but didn't you know? Christians are the only ones allowed to be victims. They're still being thrown to the lions, poor things.

I think your turn out was better than ours.....
but look at the rubbish they installed in our control box.

I shake my head that it seems Bush is going to win. If he wasn't such a religous nut, wasn't so focused on helping out his rich buddies, so concerned about 'staying the course' with the war -- I might have some sympathy for him. Then again, that said, he'd probably be a real republican rather than that mockery of the party that he is.

It doesn't hurt me so much that the executive branch will be under his thumb for 'fore more yeers'. I just shake my head that we still have the same people behind him. If it was just him, it wouldn't be so bad -- he really would be that cartoonish moron we all loved lampooning before he got the chance to be 'the defender of america and the weilder of God's sword' post-9/11.

I just want a government with some level of balance -- I don't want a government run by one side over the other.

Meh, anyways, I am rambling... this just makes me feel ill.

I agree with what Rain said:

Don't you kinda miss Dan Quayle?

Canada was lamenting the fact that its voter turnout last spring was 61%, the lowest it's ever been, and two percent lower than the previous general election.

I've got a post on this idea percolating. It might be quite strong by the time it actually hits the bytes.

It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over.

Faint hope, maybe... but between the huge amount of skullduggery and the fact that Kerry's not going to cave in easily, I think I'll just wait until things settle out.

Alas, it seems Kerry is going to cave. According to the radio he'll concede at 1pm.

At least Michigan went Kerry, though they took long enough. Unfortunately the last I heard my neighbors passed the amendment to define marriage "and similar unions" as a union of one man and one woman.

I suspected as much when I saw the pack of Mormon teenagers going in to vote. *sigh*
