The tail end of it, yes. It'll be over soon, I promise :)

That's the thing where they try to hit the ball with a big stick and send it into a little white hole?

Oh, yeah. Indeed it is. Boston humiliated the New York Yankees last night. And even you should be glad. After all, silly as baseball (and all sports) are, the Yankees are, within that small world, the epitome of all that is wrong and evil in corporate America. One would think a good Populist would like to see them get kicked.

I should note that I'm also a radio fan-- especially fond of AM radio and antique receivers. These silly hobbies almost require me to like baseball too, for it is the ultimate radio sport. It is not best watched on TV. It is not best seen in person. Nope, it is best over the radio on a summer day, when you're lounging out in the back yard with a good book and a lemonade. The slow pace of the game and its simple action make it ideal for radio. It is no coincidence that it was biggest when radio was biggest.

Actually, years ago, a friend of mine who was still attending high school had the good fortune to attend a school with its own radio station. That radio station would cover the local minor-league games on the weekends, and when he was the one in the booth, they'd let him do a music program afterward. He invited us along one evening -- and I have to say, you're right. Listening to baseball, especially in the company of friends, is a blast.

I'd long ascribed the experience to the difference between major league and minor league play, but I think the radio experience had much to do with it.
