Cards On The Table

I'm gonna lay it all right out here:

After all that's been said and done, all the things they've inflicted on America, the American people, and the world, anyone who supports the Bush "Administration" falls into one of these categories:
  1. Stupid
  2. Delusional
  3. Corrupt

[identity profile] tombfyre.livejournal.com 2004-07-26 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Huzzah to that.

[identity profile] xylen.livejournal.com 2004-07-26 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
While most Republicans aren't stupid, most stupid people are Republican.

[identity profile] shavastak.livejournal.com 2004-07-27 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
What gets me is the Republicans who are Republican because they really do believe that the government should spend (and tax) less, and because they think the military is important and we shouldn't reduce its size, which is something Democrats traditionally have tried to do...

And then they plan vote for Bush anyway, who is a) the biggest spender this country has ever seen and b) is taking money AWAY from the soldiers... how much have veteran's benefits been decreased? And how badly has Haliburton screwed over our troops in the field? C'mon people...

Blind. Wilfully blind. *sigh* Those of you out there...I don't care who you vote for. I really don't. If you don't like Kerry, fine, write in Mickey Mouse or Ronald Reagan if you like, but...
Don't let George W Bush ruin your planet...
Don't let George W Bush ruin your country...
Don't let George W Bush ruin your political party...
And don't let him ruin your life.

Or...

4) Supporting the lesser of two evils.

Though, it's in the eye of the beholder WHICH ONE is the lesser of two evils.

See 1-3 above.

[identity profile] pathia.livejournal.com 2004-07-26 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing against you personally, but do you know how absolutely frustrating it is to be in a fandom where one side of the political spectrum outnumbers you about 10:1?

[identity profile] ceruleanst.livejournal.com 2004-07-27 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Suck it up. The fandom is relatively small and sparse. Your side gets to be the ruling class in the real world. You decide who gets a job, what gets on TV, and who gets to vote. Step outside your door and within walking distance there are any number of bars, churches, et cetera where you can talk with your fellow neocons about how Bush is such an honest man and protests should be outlawed.

But if you want to be a freak among freaks, don't be so surprised when most of your fellow freaks don't want to cozy up to the end of the political spectrum that wants them dead or in jail.

[identity profile] hydra-velsen.livejournal.com 2004-07-27 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
I'm with dracono here. there's quite a few of us that dont buy into Michael Moore's lies and dont make kissy-faces at Kerry. Granted, Bush has been a less than stellar president, but I'd take him over Kerry. (though not by much).

My reasons? Well for the vast majority of reasons, I support the democrat platform (not kerrry) on their social issues, however the stark fact of the matter is that I make good money and I dont like being taxed to pay for indigants, especially non-working ones! I believe in limited socialized healthcare, yet I dont want to be told which doctor to see, and that I cant pay for better treatment if I want it. I'm an atheist and support gay rights fully (Kinda hard for me not to ;) ), but I dont want to see America's social fabric getting *too* diverse, where it begins to unravel - variety is nice, but chaos is destructive. I also like my guns, chewing tobacco, and Capn' Morgans, and want to retain the freedom to destroy my own body if I please to do so, which is another problem I have with big-government democrats.

So yeah I'm not exactly in line with either party. but when it comes down to it, what's good for my pocketbook is more important to me than what's good for society. When I get 8 million in the bank I can go join Greenpeace or whatever. ;)

Priorities

"what's good for my pocketbook is more important to me than what's good for society"

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Republican Party platform in a nutshell.

[identity profile] athelind.livejournal.com 2004-07-27 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
So I should file you under "3. Corrupt", then?

Yeah, we might let in some brown people, or lower class folks, or something.

Your logic seems to be summed up by "hey, I got mine, so screw everyone else."

So, corrupt fits.

Yay let's make America safe for greedy atheist gays with guns and booze, and everyone else can go to hell! America should be just diverse enough to include ME.

What a joke.

Funny you think I can do any that as I'm working a minimum wage job, have no insurance, asthmatic (Thus no bars for me).

Every single member of my family you would probably be considered a 'neocon', but guess what? They have no problem with gays, or furries, hell my younger brother who goes to church about five times a week is considering coming to AC with me next year and his best friend is gay.

I think your view of average republicans is just as skewed as my view of you is.

[identity profile] athelind.livejournal.com 2004-07-27 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
We're not talking about "average Republicans", though. We're talking about the bastards who've taken power, have done their damnedest to undermine the Constitution, to KEEP you in that minimum-wage job and keep that wage down -- and we're talking about the people who support this savage, robber-baron junta even as it tramples them.

Damned few people fall under "3", to be honest. Most of the rest are just smiling up at the boot that's smashing them in the face.

It's so unfair I tell you, unfair!

*sob!*

*sob!*

Time to "quit the fandom forever," kiddo.

Aren't you an economist? Does it bother you that liberals are in a minority among MBA students?

(What sort of minimum wage jobs are there for economists these days, anyway?)

--Kynn

[identity profile] pathia.livejournal.com 2004-07-27 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
Actually no, nearly every single one of my professors and fellow students are liberals. I honoestly haven't ran into another conservative yet, though there are 300students so I can't say there are none by any means.

Minorities and immigrants also outnumber the whites and there are just as many women as men in the program.

MBA programs are hardly as stereotypical as you might think anymore, at least at my University.

That must be so rough for you!

You poor thing!

How can you stand it??

Which graduate school is this, anyway, where the browns, yellows, and blacks outnumber the whites?

--Kynn

PS: MBA programs are hardly as stereotypical as you might think -- no, but you apparently are!

Nothing against you personally, but do you know how absolutely frustrating it is to grow up in rural Georgia, which is sort of the ideal GWB seems to seek out?

Do you know how absolutely frustrating it is to be in a country where;

1. Your leaders - theoretically a democratic government responsive to your input as a citizen - decide to drag your country into war despite overwhelming international and domestic disapproval - including protests that you personally participated in?

2. Your leaders, intentionally or no, underestimate the cost of said war? Traditionally, the definition of conservative included asking the important question, "well, that's nice, but how are we going to pay for it?"

3. Your leaders are caught with their pants down, having apparently planned to use an unrelated event as the launching point for a first strike war, and having intentionally or unintentionally lied before the UN, God, and the world, in order to start one?

4. Your leaders use the capture of a widely-hated enemy to cover for returning a contract to a company known to be ripping of our own military, for offering up public lands for detruction, and perhaps many other things?

5. Your leaders are on record as saying that neo-pagan traditions are not valid religions, and have supported a Constitutional Ammendment actively barring a proposed right for Queers? Who have instigated faith-based initiatives that mysteriously have funded no Jewish nor Moslem organizations? And seem quite bent on pushing a very specific brand of religious agenda?

And I could go on, but my point is, being an American citizen is really frustrating right now. I beg you to please, please reconsider your support for our current Administration.

[identity profile] pathia.livejournal.com 2004-07-27 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
I've grown up in rural Virginia, not entirely that different.

As has been said by others, I suppose I'd qualify for reason 2.

Despite the fact that even I will admit much of what you said is at least partially true if not fully. I still believe Kerry would be even worse for this country than this Bush.

I've honestly been wondering lately when us folk north of your borders are going to see a second revolution.
