Whenever I hear stories about the government seizing computers and returning them near-destroyed, I always get this mental image of bumbling oafs who don't comprehend technology.

"Nope, no files in this box, either. But there are lots of littler containers inside. Could you toss me that prybar, Steve?"

Now that is just a load of shit. Further proof that your country is going strait to hell. :p Do the sensible thing... move to canada. ^_^

[identity profile] edhyena.livejournal.com 2004-07-26 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but we can only stay in Canada for 6 months before returning, at which point by then we'd prboably be shot for treason.

Hey, I work for a Pizza Place, you'd be disturbed by the amount of information we put in those databases. That's not far from what we already have =)

Except we have touch screens ^_-

I've been to Pizza Places. Those touch screens generate paper receipts too! They must be better than voting equipment.

When I first read this article I thought: I saw this coming, why the hell didn't the democrats in congress. Then I remembered: They're ALL sucking at the MPAA's teat.

Anyone up for hiring on as government IT support only to return all their machines with all drives lined with sandpaper?

*sigh*

I can't even be mad anymore. I'm just sad.

Land of the free my ass. :/

We knew that the abuse of the so called PATRIOT act would happen sooner or later. Funny how the MPAA is one of the first, even as the promote movies that rail against such things (http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/index.php?id=103).

[identity profile] cargoweasel.livejournal.com 2004-07-27 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Hey now, Moore has encouraged downloading of his movie for those unable to see it in theaters. He just wants the message out.

[identity profile] arcturax.livejournal.com 2004-07-27 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
I know Moore has, but the MPAA, who gave the movie a stamp of approval, certainly does not think that way. My comment was about the MPAA, not Moore.

As it turns out, that article here has an update now, it seems that the person in the article was scamming people and offering illegal downloads. The article didn't mention that until the update that must have happened last night sometime. But it is still a questionable use of the patriot act, there are other laws they could have acted under.

~Reads... Reads again. Then sees a link to this fiasco on The Inquirer (A tech news website~

So... Wait. You mean this shit's REAL? First time I read it I was sure it was a fake, nobody could be that stupid. But now I realise it's no parody, no hoax, and I'm just left utterly speechless.

I wanted to live in the US, once. Hell, now I'm even getting cold feet about visiting the place.

Aaaaactually.

You might wanna look at THIS (http://groups.google.ca/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&scoring=d&q=%22Adam++McGaughey%22&btnG=Search)

Seems this guy's been rather naughty, and what he's been up to has nothing to do with the Fansite. This puts an interesting slant on things.

Yeah it does, but it was still an inappropriate use of the Patriot act. In the past they could have done the same thing with a court order, but now thanks to the Patriot act, there is no need for that anymore. They can collect information on anybody and the parties they get it from are not allowed to talk about it period.
