(I can't believe it took me this long to list this one...)

MEGO: My Eyes Glaze Over. Invoked whenever a topic of conversation is so far out of one's area of interest that one simply cannot follow it, even if one makes an effort to be polite and engaged. More generally invoked when one does not actually wish to make such an effort.

Not to be confused with the 1970's toy company.

For me, discussions of video/computer games, organized sports and such television shows as Survivor generally induce a MEGO reaction. Believe me, I am well aware that some of my own interests have the same effect on others. For instance, have I mentioned how annoyed I am that Hal Jordan is returning to the role of Green Lantern?

I understand how this comes about. Sometimes it's not even the subject, but the person you're talking with. At times, I'll just listen on, but usually I'll be polite and beg off, as I don't have the input they'd like me to give. Then again, it also might depend on the time of day and how one is feeling. Lots of things contribute.

I get like that sometimes when people I don't know start rambling about some aspect of their private mind, or something they like... Blah. Boring!

According to Dictionary.com, MEGO has been around for a while, in a different context.

Interesting that...
looking at "handwaves" it's my experience that when you hear "To be honest""To be quite frank""The facts of the matter are""When you look at the real facts" or some such...
The politician (nearly always is a politician) is about to lie.

Well, you do know how you tell when a politician is lying, don't you?

Their lips move.
