From Jack Kirby's classic KAMANDI #4.

For years, I've argued that KAMANDI (Subtitle: Last Boy On Earth!) was the seminal "furry comic" -- it wasn't "funny animals", it was a science fiction adventure story chock full of anthropomorphic animals. It was almost certainly a major inspiration of Gamma World, which may have been the most successful anthropomorphic RPG.
Every issue of KAMANDI was packed with action, excitement, startling, innovative concepts... hmmm.
Okay, maybe it wasn't really a furry comic, after all.
