The Stupidist Thing I've Ever Done
Sep. 28th, 2003 03:45 pmOr definitely in the top five, anyway.
hinoki,
andreal and I took a trip out to The Dead Mall today, to pick something up at the game store there. Afterward, we decided to have lunch at In'N'Out.
I'm not all that used to driving with passengers, though I'm growing more accumstomed to it these days. Still, as we were getting out of the car, I was distracted, trying to keep track of conversation and other things.
Other important things.
We had a pleasant, high-cholesterol lunch, and headed back to my little purple car. I reached into my belt pouch for the keys... and stopped. I looked down, double-checked, checked the OTHER pockets in the pouch, and then walked over to look into the car.
I'd locked my keys in.
After a moment, we realized that, not only had I locked my keys in... I'd left the engine running.
For the entire time we were eating.
Thankfully, it didn't use a significant amount of gas. And thankfully,
quelonzia, the Fire of my Heart, was just a cell phone and a short drive away.
But, damn, was that stupid.

Date: 2003-09-28 04:13 pm (UTC)I have one of those little magnetic boxes, and keep a door key inside it, hidden under the back left fender of my car. That little key has saved my butt more times than I can remember.

Date: 2003-09-29 09:54 am (UTC)Our insurance comes with Free Roadside Assistance. We've both taken advantage of that a time or two.
You know where I keep the number?
On a little tag on my keychain.
I think I need to plug it into my cell phone.

Date: 2004-04-04 06:01 pm (UTC)I was at Kazin's place and working on the switches for the power windows and locks. (Which required the car to be running to operate, see where this is going?) The sickly feeling you get in the moment you think "oh F*** I locke-" and hear the door slam is quite indescribable. Then you think of the fact that if you had been SMART you would have left the one door that doesn't respond to the electric lock (the replacement sliding door of the van) unlocked while you worked.
Good thing I had left the door of Kazin's house unlocked. I called AAA and had them send someone pronto. Talk about embarrassing.
