The Widening Gyre. Come on: "The best lack all conviction, while the worst / Are full of passionate intensity ... ?" Oh, yeah, Yeats had our number.

But that's poetic, and poetry has a certain beauty. There's nothing beautiful about this decade. I nominate "Swirling Vortex of Suck."

I'm inclined to call it the Viral Decade. Computer virus surged; Bird and Swine flu viruses have had their day; Viral video and advertising were introduced.

My only objection would be that the original poem implies a lead-in to impending Armageddon. While things still seem to be crappy and (depending on who you talk to and in what context) possibly getting worse, the downhill slide isn't really accelerating in the way it was in the mid-Oughts.

So along the same lines but with slightly less eschatology, I nominate "The Shattering."
