As I was sitting in the Urgent Care, I noticed that they were position-dependent -- if I leaned back, they settled down and went away. Over the last couple of days (now that the hypochondria/anxiety has gone away) the pains have gone away completely -- so long as I sit up straight, or lean back slightly.

...did I just get an EKG and an expensive blood test for poor posture??

I don't think so, honestly. There must have been some trigger; there's nothing about "bruised esophagus" hypothesis that's incompatible with position-dependence. But, jeez.

Could it have been acid-reflux related? I know a lot of 'chest pains' I used to get were just caused by poor diet/stress.

Yeah, you probably did. And given my dad died of his 2nd coronary when I was just 11... PLEASE KEEP DOING THINGS LIKE THAT, sir. ♥

For some reason that makes me think even more that you've got some sort of esophagal thing going on.

Maybe. Beats my sending Quelonzia an email offering sympathy on the death of her mate, don't you think?

This doesn’t sound like reflux.

It sounds a bit like MSK pain; has costochondritis, or even Tietze’s Syndrome been considered?

After the EKG and cardiac enzymes chest radiograph would have ruled out all the other serious possibilities on the differential.

Oh, no, I'm pretty sure it's not reflux. I've had acid reflux for a LONG time, and it's been largely under control with Prevacid for over a decade now. I'm well-acquainted the symptoms; GERD, for me, feels like a burning sensation, while the Mystery Chest Pains of this weekend felt like a bruise or muscle ache.

As for the other stuff -- no, they didn't really go into all that, though my doctor might want to follow up in that direction once they get the results to him.

Reflux and I are OLD friends, and this wasn't it. See my reply to Doc Mystery, below.

Nah. You're relieving some sort of pressure on something when you sit up or back. It's another piece of the puzzle.
