Conflicts with the narrative, thus ignored. Just like enormous antiwar protests in 2003. At the time, according to the media, all of America loved war and wanted war, and was behind President Flightsuit as he landed on the aircraft carrier and proclaimed mission accomplished.
That was the narrative.

Protests and rallies have lost their effectiveness, as the media refuses to acknowledge them when they don't fit with the narrative the media wishes to portray. In this case, the desired narrative is that all of Alaska loves Sarah Palin (83% approval!) so any evidence of alaskans not loving sarah palin's folksy charm is ignorable.

Unrelated but, really, I can not believe they actually gave her that "tough as nails/pit bull in lipstick" speech, then turned right around to tell the press she's a fragile flower and a mommy so BE NICE. Mixed messages, people.

Strange how Palin gets to refer to herself, because she's a Hockey Mom (tm), as a pitbull with lipstick, but Obama is excoriated for his remark about putting lipstick on a pig.

Completely (and, one almost hopes*, deliberately) missing that "lipstick on a pig" is a metaphor, boys and girls, for "dressing up something ugly". Hell, if anything, Palin is the lipstick...and McCain is the pig.

Total agreement. And frankly, I got pissed the moment she said that.

It just clarified for me that she's one of those assholes who willingly confuses 'being an asshole' with 'being assertive'.

And since when is being a savage, ate-the-neighbors-kids-without-an-apology dog a GOOD thing? Its like she's saying, 'yeah, I will indicriminately maul and ravage both friend and foe because I'm imbred crazy, yay!' I know what they WANT that to come across as...

But if that's how they want to do it - well, now on, I'll just say 'we love this guy, he's our demented son of sam killer' when I want to say someone's tenacious. :p

They didn't completely miss it. They deliberately chose to misinterpret it so they'd have something to bitch about.

I've got a story from the playground that seems to fit: "Mrs. V, he told me to fuck off!" (Yes, the kid used the f-word in conversation with the teacher - but I digress.)

Other kid: "No, I tripped over the curb and said it without thinking!"

First kid: "But I was RIGHT THERE and we had a fight yesterday!"

Yeah. I let the kid off the hook.
