Gary Gygax, RIP
Mar. 4th, 2008 10:46 amE. Gary Gygax, co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons, died today.
Yes, he screwed Dave Arneson. Yes, he always took all of the credit for successes and none of the blame for failures. Yes, his designs were convoluted and imbalanced, and his post-D&D work was largely terrible.
But, along with a VERY small circle of associates, the man invented an entirely new form of entertainment, and one that has an impact onpretty much everyone reading this journal -- whether they know it or not.
Rest in Piece, Gary. And thanks.
