One of the anomalies in my mostly-liberal political alignment is my stand on the Second Amendment. I think that the Right to Bear Arms is as important to maintaining our freedoms as any of the others enumerated in the Bill of Rights. This article captures some of that position eloquently.

Most people think, or casually "adopt" the notion that "it can't happen here" etc. History can repeat itself if its allowed. People that criticise the 2nd Amendment usually fail to understand *why* it was put there in the first place. Latter day visions of gun toting para-militias notwithstanding, the inherent "right" afforded is paramount to maintaining liberty.
