1. Who is your favorite celebrity?
Wow, that's a toughie. "Celebrity" suggests that we're talking about a famous person's public persona, rather than his or her body of work, and I don't often think in those terms. I mean, there are a lot of people whose celebrity seems... self-referential. They're famous because they're famous. Back in the Seventies, they'd be the panelists on game shows.

So, back on track -- I'd say my vote Favorite Celebrity is tied between Katherine Hepburn and Paul Newman. Lady Kate is simply the Goddess Of Pure Class, in her public persona as well as her on-screen roles. Meanwhile, Paul Newman has pulled off the neat trick of exploiting his public persona for good causes, setting up his Newman's Own brand to give all its after-tax profits to charity. Class acts, both of them.

2. Who is your least favorite?
Well, let's see... I'm gonna file my dislikes for the Mouthpieces of the Religious Reich under "Body Of Work", and give my vote for Least Favorite Celebrity to the eldritch horror that is Michael Jackson.

3. Have you ever met or seen any celebrities in real life?
Okay, again, I'll leave out famous actors that I've seen on stage and moderately-well-known people like writers and artists who don't really have "Celebrity Status".
I've met Stan Lee, the master of self-promotion.
I've seen DeForest Kelly, Gene Roddenberry, and The Captain and Tennille (hey, they were celebrities back then).

4. Would you want to be famous? Why or why not?
It might be interesting. I wouldn't mind using fame as a lever to get people to listen to the Causes I Find Important.

5. If you had to trade places with a celebrity for a day, who would you choose and why?
George Will, Rush Limbaugh or some other conservative commentator, so I could savage those who richly deserve it from a pulpit that will get attention from those who most need to hear it.

Sadly they'd just change the station. There are a few polls that show Liberals are willing to listen to Conservative radio, but not vice versa.

I on the other hand don't mind listening to either side, because I'll end up yelling at the radio no matter what. Being angry and screaming in an empty car is quite exhilarating(for someone as introverted as me at least) and it also keeps you awake =)

I suppose I'd agree with Vitro. You're famous to a point. But then, many are famous to a point. And then there's the thing about people liking celebrities or disliking celebrities. Personally, I still like Michael Jackson. He did so much for the pop music world, gave us a lot of good songs, entertained us...and sure, he did get messed up, no denying that, but I still suppose I like him. People like and dislike for so many different reasons, be it an actor who's great at acting, but has his record marred by stupid stunts he's pulled offscreen, or a singer like Michael Jackson. Then people could like a guy who isn't that great at acting, or simply has talent in a single category, yet seems to stand out in that category...or is just handsome or beautiful.

Anyway...yeah, sorry if this went nowhere. Sorta feeling off lately, I guess.

Okay, if you like his music, that's one thing, but don't start buying into his "selflessly dedicated his life to Music and The Children of the World" act.

"Did so much for the pop music world"?? Um... frankly, the pop music world wasn't that much different Pre-MJ than Post-MJ.

Oh, wait, belay my last. He did buy up the entire Beatles catalog, among others, and started shilling out certified Rock Anthems to advertising agencies to sell sneakers, soda, software, and VW Beetles.

That's not so much doing for as doing to.

I'm not buying that whole 'dedicated' stance. He showed a lot of care and public attention for the world and children back in the early nineties, but people also thought of him as weird back then because of his private life. I feel that yeah, he was *trying* to do something about it, but it's just my opinion. I don't go out shouting "I love MJ!" at any time of the day at any point. It's a sad thing what happened to him. He was a great singer, probably a good man, and it doesn't matter whether this mental instability has been with him since way back when or whether it's a recent development, but now he's unstable and disillusioned.
