Okay, this is too cool.

Google Earth is the most elegant piece of software I've ever seen.

I'm supposedly a GIS tech. I need to learn how to do stuff like this -- making overlays and inputs that will work with Google Maps and Google Earth, pulling useful information off the Web. Alas, my programming and scripting knowledge is minimal.

Can anyone suggest a good way of learning this sort of thing? Can anyone talk me through the basics?

Edit: Please note that I can't even figure out how to LOAD a KML overlay.
