This is really annoying, I'm going to try to to find the paper, but an Economist once wrote a paper that 8hours of sleep and 8hours of work five days a week was the most efficient work hours without even taking into acount human fraility and need of sleep. It just works out perfectly due to actual economic measures, not just our need for sleep and relaxation. So in general overtime is not really economically viable, even if you get paid more for it.
