Good-bye, Neighbor.
At the age of 74, Fred Rogers has passed on.
I grew up on Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. For all the jokes and parodies (which he found largely amusing as well), it was a much-needed respite from the usual frantic pace of children's television. A man speaking softly and gently and conversationally to children about imagination, and showing them fascinating glimpses into the workings of the everyday world -- this was, for decades, the quintessence of public television.
